Spring is a special time of year for tea lovers. After a long winter’s slumber, tea plants awaken and extend their first new growths into the warming spring air. These first flush teas are some of the most prized, containing the energy and nutrients stored up during their rest. And lucky for us, two Bay Area tea shops are celebrating by hosting spring tea tasting events!
Teance in Berkeley is hosting a free event, Adventures in Spring Tea, tomorrow night from 6:00-8:00 pm. Teance’s tea buyer ,Winnie Yu, recently returned from procuring fresh teas from Asia, and will share tea and stories from her trip.
“On Tuesday we will welcome her back and share some of the new spring harvests she has procured for us. In addition to tasting these exceptional green, white, and oolong teas, you will get to hear about her travels as she met with tea masters, artisans and pioneers in the tea world.”

Modern Tea in San Francisco is hosting a Best Of Spring Teas event on Sunday, June 8th at 7:00 pm. They will taste two classic spring teas, a reserve harvest Dragonwell from Hangzhou, China and a competition Baochong from Piglin, Taiwan. These teas were specially procured for Modern Tea by Carnie and Sina of Red Circle Tea Company, who will be on hand to tell the stories behind these amazing teas.
This event is $35, and space is limited. If you’d like to attend, give them a call at 415.626.5406 to reserve a seat.
